The Associate Fiber Optic Splicing Technician position will splice fiber optic cables in the air, underground, and indoors. The position will need to have attention to detail in regards to setting up splice locations, termination points, and general fiber optic construction. The position will also have experience fusing fiber optic cables in a production environment for small, to large projects. The position will test and troubleshot fiber optic networks for acceptance testing, trouble identification, and fiber characterization. The position will use the latest equipment and be able to train as required on new equipment and adapt to the processes at FiberNet. The work is typically performed outdoors, but indoor work may also be required. Employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, etc. Splicing work may be performed in a confined splice trailer or other space. The work may often be performed near busy city, state or federal streets and highways.
This position will be subject to on-call duties. Most of the routine work will take place at night between the hours of 11pm to 7am five days a week. Weekends and holiday work may also be required.
High School Diploma required, two year technical degree preferred. Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operation (e.g. vehicle with bucket lift). 1-3 years' experience in the Telecom industry in the splicing, installation, maintenance and repair of network and/or Outside Plant Experience plus a minimum of two years of field experience required.
