Job Purpose: Power Supply System Operator - Lone Star Transmission
The Transmission System Operator is responsible for the operations of Lone Star Transmission equipment and interfaces with other transmission operating entities, Lone Star transmission field personnel, and ERCOT. A Transmission System Operator has the responsibility and authority to direct and implement real-time actions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Lone Star transmission system. Such actions include all switching and voltage control actions to prevent or alleviate system operating limits within Lone Star's transmission system. These actions are performed, as required, without additional authorization, including - but not limited to - firm load shedding. Transmission System Operator's are responsible for complying with NERC and ERCOT reliability standards, protocols and operating guides.
The position's purpose is to monitor and control the reliable transfer of power on Lone Star's transmission facilities including reactive (Shunt Capacitor/Inductor) dispatch, and supervision of all activities within the Lone Star Transmission Control Center . These activities include: interface with the Generator Operators (GO), maintaining reliability of the Lone Star transmission
system with specific operating practices, and according to NERC and ERCOT reliability standards; evaluate and process generation, transmission and substation equipment clearance requests consistent with system reliability; assess both real-time power flow and next-day
operations forecasts to identify and mitigate potential system issues; inform management of emergencies affecting the reliability or economics of the power system; train other Transmission System Operators, to meet the requirements of NERC/ERCOT/Lone Star transmission system
operations; supervise and direct all daily operational activities of the Lone Star transmission control room; fulfill the requirements and coordination activities of ERCOT. The Transmission System Operator must be fluent in English.
