Utilizes standardized procedures or specific instructions to test electrical power generation and distribution equipment. Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but may be tasked to perform non-standardized assignments as guided by working leader or higher level technical personnel. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed upon completion; non-routine work will be reviewed in-progress. Performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as: load bank operations, phase configurations and grounding operations, environmental chamber test set up/tear down and operations of various pieces of equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.) to support testing of electrical power generation and distribution equipment. Calculates load bank settings to determine load ratings, maximum power and fuel consumption and processes the data in accordance with well-defined methods and designated formulas. Operates and transfers information from ADMAS data acquisition equipment with minimal or no guidance in support of reliability and performance testing of electrical power generation and distribution equipment. Analyzes and presents various test data in accordance with established methods, as reviewed by higher level personnel or government engineer. Services or repairs simple instruments or equipment. Adjusts and operates equipment, and records test data, pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors. Troubleshoots and repairs electronic, mechanical and hydraulic equipment associated with testing to include utilizing diagnostic equipment, soldering, and wiring. Provides assistance to higher level technicians/engineering personnel engaged in conducting test and evaluation of electrical power generation and distribution equipment
3 yrs. of applicable experience; or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate's Degree and 1 yr. of applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 2 yrs. of applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 1 yr. of applicable experience. Must possess basic computer skills. Technician specialized areas include: Armaments and Munitions (AMT), Ballistic Instrumentation, Close Combat, Data System, Flash X-Ray, Generator Test Site, Geodetics, Maritime (MT), Mobile Equipment Tester, Network, Optical Engineering, Optical Instrumentation, Small Arms (SAT), Soldier Systems, and Vulnerability/Lethality (VLT).
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
May require sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time (up to 50%). The ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%). The ability to push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 50%).
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment may be mostly outside depending on the task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures and other outdoor climatic conditions is required (up to 25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts.
Work may require being assigned to shift work (up to 90%).
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Conducts test and evaluations using computer acquisition equipment, general electrical equipment, high speed thermocouple data acquisition, and/or toxic fumes measurement. Work will also involve the use of hand and power tools. Uses a variety of standard references, guides, and precedents to obtain needed information. Work may require being around moving machinery and high voltage equipment. Work may require driving auto equipment, forklifts, skid loaders, as well as other equipment.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice.
OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to hearing tests, laser eye exam, and complete blood count. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. May be subject to exposure to noise, vibration, temperature extremes, lead, high voltage, petroleum, oil, lubricants, dusts, and solvents. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver's license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license within 30 days of employment.
