This is a NASA Test and Evaluation contract position; it may be assigned to Jacobs Technology Inc. or a teammate company. Supervisor in the Construction, Maintenance, and Operations (CM&O) Branch of the facilities department at the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF). Reports directly to the CM&O Manager. Plans, organizes, and supervises the daily activities of various craft personnel including heavy equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, buildings and grounds, and janitorial. Controls and reviews work to assure timeliness and accuracy of responsible functions. Establishes and maintains schedules for the groups to be consistent with budgetary and time constraints with emphasis on safety of operations. Works closely with customers to ensure scope of work is clearly defined. Assists employees with problem resolution; counsel employees and commends, or reprimands as appropriate; conducts performance evaluation interviews; seeks interpretation of company policies as required and informs employees; enforces safety regulations; assures compliance with and actively supports EEO/AA programs. Develops innovative approaches to non-routine, nonrecurring work requests, based on acquired expertise and knowledge or organization philosophy and personnel capabilities. Performs any other related duties as may be required to meet objective of the group, provides training; maintains appropriate records. Will be required to be on call on for after hours response on a rotating basis. Must be able to respond to emergency situations as they occur. Overtime work after normal work hours or on non-work days is required based on operational needs. Must be able to interpret and enforce a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must be able to multi-task and resolve complex problems under stressful situations as they arise.Minimum of two (2) years college or vocational training in area of specialty plus twelve (12) years relevant experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance, or any equivalent combination of education/experience for a total of fourteen (14) years. Must have experience in the operation and maintenance of mobile cranes and hold OSHA recognized Crane Operator Certification or equivalent certifications demonstrating competency prior to the OSHA Certification requirement. Must also have operation and maintenance experience with other heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, man-lifts, and forklifts. Demonstrated leadership ability and excellent communication skills are required. Experience in a union environment is desired but not required. Experience in facility construction and maintenance is also desirable.
UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION
Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, and ability to access remote structures. Typically required to lift and hold up to 30 pounds.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position requires individual to travel to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. Uneven surfaces exist in office and shop areas and must be traversed. Must be able to function as a member of a team in a face paced environment. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS
Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required.
CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE
Attendance and punctuality are essential in this highly collaborative environment. Overtime work will be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management. Normal working hours are nine (9) hour per day with some flexibility based on pre-approval. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternate Fridays off, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle (9-80 schedule).

Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must be able to pass a physical examination (including drug testing) as determined by the NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license (state). Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must pass a federal background investigation.
