About the Role:

Direct and manage the design, installation, and application of mechanical systems used in engine R&D

Direct and manage design and operations of chiller plant

Specify, develop, design the facilities utility interfaces for test cell mechanical equipment used in support of testing

Specify and develop designs for central building process mechanical equipment

Work in collaboration with customers, test engineers, and support staff

Prepare mechanical system specifications and project timing plans

Design, modify, and adapt fluid systems used to condition engine jacket water, oil, charge air, combustion air and fuel in order to meet changing customer and product needs

Serve as technical resource for design, estimating, and scheduling of equipment install projects; Interact with AE firms, CCM partners, and equipment suppliers

Work with skilled trades, other team members, technicians to install, modify, and commission new mechanical equipment

Assure the accurate completion of new or modified systems documentation and drawings
Conduct training and safety reviewsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME); (MS preferred)
One (1) year of related experience in engineering
Knowledge of fuels, lubricants and heat transfer fluids used for engine testing
Working knowledge of industrial process piping systems, material compatibility and fittings
Experience with mechanical power transmission, drive line components, couplings, machinery installation and rotating equipment alignment
Experience in Plant or Facilities Engineering. Knowledgeable in NFPA, BOCA and corporate requirements
Familiar with welding, joining, and machine shop operations
Knowledge of heat transfer, fluids, and mechanical systems modeling, industrial HVAC, refrigeration chillers, evaporative cooling tower systems, and related controls
Knowledge of IC engine dynamometer testing and related test measurement systems; exp. using AUTOCAD to prepare mechanical system PID's, and layouts
Knowledge of Chiller Plant operations, R22 refrigerant, ammonia to CO2 cascade systems
Proficient in MicroSoft Office suite
Good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skills. Strong technical leadership, organization, and teamwork
Experience with data acquisition and control systems
Experience with testing instrumentation and calibration equipment

Experience with MCXI, VXI, Visual Basic, C++, LabView, and Linux

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Work is inside 100%

Hot temperatures generated by engines. Cold start tests, the engine can be soaked to -20F 50%

Rotating equipment, engines, hot exhaust, trip hazards 100%

Physical Requirements

Lifting test equipment and testing components - 25%

Safety glasses, slip resistant hardened toe shoes, gloves 100

Long pants, short sleeve shirts

Able to lift 25 lbs

Engine high noise level while running in the test cell, the employees are not exposed to engine speeds over idle while in the cell.

Equipment and Machines

Computers, DMM - 75%


8 hours per day Monday thru Friday (Day Shift) Exempt

May need to flex time to cover weekend testing or project needs

Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Must complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, health performance evaluation, and background check.

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel to and from customer's locations and the test fields may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
