TEIMS's Engineering and Technical Services (ETS) division provides the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) support for flight research projects, internal research and development, and various technical support functions.Job Summary:
This position will support NASA's Traveler Project with data analysis. The successful candidate will assist the Project Lead Operations Engineer and Chief Engineer in the development and implementation of a Traveler data capture, storage and analysis system (that includes onboard flight data and Low Altitude Small UAS Test Ranges (LASUTR) instrumentation) that will grow as the project progresses thru its development phases; each adding additional Traveler systems capabilities.Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the Traveler project effort includes (but is not limited to) the following:
- Identify and document data system requirements and gaps;
Perform data analysis of Traveler flight data (from onboard systems and merged LASUTR data);
Perform quick (1-2 day) analysis/turn around of flight data to feed into next/upcoming Traveler flight planning;
Assist in writing and development of flight test cards;
Assist in writing on Traveler Project Technical Report at conclusion of Phases I, II, and III;
Flight qualification of systems; system verification and validation testing.
Ensure performance of hardware development, qualification, test, and evaluation; perform integration of automated tools developed for simulation and systems test into the project-testing mainstream.
Analyze project objectives and requirements, develop plans for conducting projects, provide support for the project safety review process, including participation in the development of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, documentation of hazards, and the specification and implementation of mitigations to those hazards.
Conduct test planning including both ground and flight tests. Post flight data analysis and reporting.
Review project instructions to ascertain requirements, specifications, procedures, objectives, equipment, nature of technical problem, and possible solutions.
Set up and conduct tests or studies of complete systems, components, or concepts under research test conditions to investigate proposals for improving performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control with some supervisory direction and review.
Record test or report procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and makes recommendations for changes. Create project schedules to track progress on projects and to ensure that deadlines are met.
Generate and validate test procedures to ensure that all system requirements are met.
Analyze indicated and calculated results in relation to requirements, specifications, or test objectives.
- Must possess at least 2 years experience (strongly prefer 5 years) with systems instrumentation (with aircraft systems and fight test), data capture, storage and analysis;
- Prefer experience with time-stamping and data integration from various independent sources is also highly desirable.
- Must have some familiarity with aircraft avionics and/or instrumentation systems.
- Must be able to work in a team oriented environment.

- High School diploma along with 8 years of technically related experience including 2 years experience with systems instrumentation (strongly desire aircraft system and flight test experience) and data capture, storage and analysis; or
- AS degree in Engineering or Physical Science along with 8 years of general work related experience including 2 years systems instrumentation experience, data capture, storage and analysis; or
- BS in non-engineering discipline along with 8 years related experience of which 2 years are performing para-engineering duties and 2 years systems instrumentation experience, data capture, storage and analysis; or
- BS degree in Engineering or Physical Science along with 3 years of general work experience including 2 years systems instrumentation experience, data capture, storage and analysis; or
- Advanced degree with 2 years of systems instrumentation or data analysis experience.
Must be able to secure and maintain a government Secret security clearance.Essential Functions Work Environment
