Intro: The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) requires comprehensive worldwide information technology (IT) support to operate and maintain the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Information Enterprise (SIE). The SIE provides support from the garrison level out to forward-deployed tactical operators and sensors worldwide. In pursuit of these requirements, USSOCOM, its Component Commands, TSOCs, and deployed forces are deploying the Special Operations Forces Network (SOFNET). The deployment of the SOFNET is instrumental to achieving the Commander's Vision of a Global SOF Network that provides strategic options for our national leaders and supported Global Combatant Commanders through a worldwide network that fully integrates our military, interagency and international partners with aligned structures, processes and authorities. The services provided by SITEC II will be a key enabler for over 69,700 users operating in approximately 75 countries.
Z-O&M Crew Chief (Systems Administrator) Job Description: The O&M Crew Chiefs are the Senior System Administrators on shift supporting USSOCOM Global Enterprise Operations Center's (GEOC's) oversight of SIE operations. The O&M Crew Chief will aid the GEOC Watch Officer in maintaining operational situational awareness of the health of the SIE by ensuring the right levels of support staff are engaged on performance impacting events, escalation of operations impacting events to Senior J6 Leadership and providing regular state of the SIE situational reports. As the lead, Jacobs administrator, the O&M Crew Chief will ensure tier one and two network support is conducted in accordance with the SIE OPORD. The right candidate for this position:
- Must possess strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills, in addition to in-depth technical knowledge of the Government's systems' hardware and software.
Has a background in the specific types of hardware and software systems used by the Government.
Monitors and controls the SIE Data Center and Wide Area Network operations and has the technical background to direct the correct system and network administrative actions during an event causing service outages.
Ensures the support staff follows published operating instructions.
Continuously monitors the operation applications and storage devices to ensure services are properly provisioned.
Ensures the support staff adjusts operations in accordance with standard procedures.
Confers with software systems engineering or applications programming personnel in the event that errors require a change of instructions or sequences of operations.
Maintains operating records such as machine performance and production reports.
- Installing operating system software, patches, and upgrades
Analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving system hardware, software, and networking issues
Configuring, optimizing, fine-tuning, and monitoring operating system software and hardware
Performing system backups and recovery
Conducting server builds
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's Degree preferred and must possess a minimum of eight (8) years of System Administrator experience.
- IAT Level II, (Security+)
MCSE current and relevant to the candidate's work area.
Must have the ability to obtain TS/SCI required.
Work will be performed in a cubical environment inside a large facility. Will require some travel to CONUS and OCONUS Special Operations locations depending on requests by the customer. May be required to attend off site meetings.
Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
Equipment and Machines
General office equipment, which includes: telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory. Work assignments dependent on requirements by the client. It is important to be able to work at least 8 hours a day for 5 days per week. Crew chief positions support multiple shifts: 24X7X365 including holidays and weekends.
