CH2M is seeking a Transportation Design-Build (DB) Manager for exciting and challenging highway and road infrastructure projects in the Northwest. In this role you will champion the delivery of high quality design products for design-build transportation projects that meet or exceed client and owner-agency expectations. You will also manage the design team, providing overall technical direction as well as flagging cross-discipline issues that arise and ensure development of successful solution as well as coordinate design activities and decisions with the DB Project Manager.
Our Design-Build Managers:
•Coordinate multi-discipline design teams during proposal and delivery phases of DB projects
•Liaise with contractor-clients
•Participate in delivery phase planning of successful pursuits
•Monitor project execution and progress, including staff resources, schedule, scope, budget, and client issues, necessary to achieve a successful project completion
•Take actions required to continuously improve project performance
•Actively support Business Development and Client Service Managers in developing and expanding DB opportunities with existing and new clients
•Provide input into design-build strategy development within geography facilitating the interactions between the DB Contractor, the third party stakeholders and the designer's various sub-consultants, along with the Owner's representative for design related requirements,
•Execute subcontracts and manage the design subconsultants and their interactive relationships meeting all of the design DBE/ WBE / DVBE and small business enterprise requirements of the contract and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Subcontract management and administration
•Collaborate with other DB Team leaders to ensure the critical design components and related submittal documents are properly prioritized and delivered
•Collaborate with DB Project Manager, Project Sponsor, and DB Team members to identify risks and ensure that risk mitigation measures are in place and are being followed
•Possess the knowledge of Project Control processes and procedures, develop and manage metrics against the design budget for early detection of budget overruns, understand quantity tracking, understand Critical Path method (CPM) scheduling and be able to mitigate impacts of design delays if they arise during the design process
•Drive innovative thoughts and ideas within the design staff. Motivate "Value Engineering" and group collaboration amongst discipline leads, chair brainstorming sessions with design and construction participants to maximize construction efficiency and project cost. Bring latest design innovations and technologies into the design
•Manage changes to the contract scope as requested by either the Owner or DB Contractor, understand activities that constitute changes under the auspices of a Design Build contract, and be able to negotiate equitable changes to the design contract
•Manage the "Design Services During Construction" phase of the contract. This requires making reductions to staff to critical minimal levels while being able to answer contractor RFI's and resolve all design issues which arise during construction.
•Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Master's Degree in Civil Engineering preferred, along with 10 years' experience in the design and/or management of transportation projects as well as design management experience on at least two major Design Build projects with construction values over $100 million and a PE License.
•Knowledge of DB contracts and risk avoidance and mitigation and knowledge of DB project controls and change processes required.
•Candidates must also have strong technical, organizational and communication skills to manage and coordinate the full range of design disciplines across design office locations required for DB projects.
•This role may require travel to help ensure coordination between the design and construction teams, and to maintain involvement with the design liaison team on-site during construction.The minimum qualifications for this position are:
•Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
•10 years' experience in the design and/or management of transportation projects
•Design management experience on at least two major Design Build projects with construction values of $50 million or higher
•Knowledge of DB contracts and risk avoidance and mitigation
•Knowledge of DB project controls and change processes
•Strong technical, organizational and communication skills to manage and coordinate the full range of design disciplines across design office locations required for DB projectsThe ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
•Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
