Perform the function of communication design, including production of construction documents related to commercial, institutional, office buildings, and residential facilities. With thorough knowledge in telecommunication infrastructure analysis, design, and engineering of systems to include the Premises Distribution System and Outside Plant Distribution Network.
Assess projects, identify design requirements and prepare necessary design calculations using hand calculations and uses computer to run standard programs in order to solve engineering problems as required.
The candidate must possess a B.S. degree in electronic or communication engineering at a minimum.
Possess a minimum 7 years of solid experience in design related to the position with a total of 15 years of experience from the date of graduation.
Must be fluent in both written and spoken English.
Must have thorough knowledge of engineering practices, calculation methods, and design details, using U.S./BS/Euro design codes and standards. Extensive experience using U.S. design codes is preferred.
Well versed with BICSI/TDM, national electric codes, National Fire Protection Association, Engineering of North America, and other U.S. or European codes.

Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares design packages (inclusive of design drawings, scopes of work, and material technical specifications) for in-building and outside plant communication infrastructure systems, which include but are not limited to the institution and commercial building Premises Distribution System (hard wired and wireless distribution), CATV, CCTV, multimedia A/V system, and video conferencing. Knowledge of fire alarm and detection systems is also required.
Provides expert advice and assistance for the design, construction, and maintenance engineers and operating personnel on all matters pertaining to the telecommunication field.
Outlines the design intent, requirements, and objectives. Coordinates project development and leads a group of professionals. The Communication Design Engineer should be certified by BICSI (Building Industry Consulting Service Int'l.), as well as a Certified and Registered Communication Distribution Designer (RCDD).
Writes technical reports and provides a solution to complex technical problems.
Determines all required design elements necessary for code compliance. Coordinates development of work scopes and detailed technical specifications.
Lays out plans and detailed drawings for development by draftsmen. Identifies standard details and develops new details as required.
Prepares cost estimates and material take-offs for the work as applicable, and coordinates with cost engineers on the development of capital project estimates.
Supports onsite project execution and project proposals, and initiates detailed work outlines.
Make decisions to support projects and acts as technical consultant when required.
